LOL you said "installed" and "Norton" in the same thread, and you're somehow astonished that it's a resource hog?

You ever read anything about Norton on the internet before? ;)

I've got AntiVir, Microsoft anti-spyware, and Kerio personal firewall. I have not had a single virus, peice of spyware, anything. Which is much more than can be said of many PCs that are preloaded with Norton system works that people bring into the computer store I work at.

And for the record, norton is a TERRIBLE resource hog. It eats ram like it was bacon.

In my experience systemworks is garbage. Speeddisk actually rearranges data to make things slower. For defrag you should use Diskeeper, the one built into windows uses the diskeeper code but the retail version is far faster. For virus and firewall there are many options that aren't crap like Norton (although the anti-virus is about the only product they make that could be considered acceptable).

AVG/Avast ftw. Use ZA for a firewall or get a router. OneCare looks decent, it's promising. It isn't so much a memory hog even with all its features. That's not to say it won't become a memory hog in the future when it goes gold.

The only Norton product I'd ever consider even letting get near my machines would be Norton Corporate. And that would only be if for whatever reason Trend went out of business.

I can't stand their products. Especially their "consumer" line of products.

I'm curious as to how much stuff on your rig should be "quarantined" according to Ad Aware; would you mind running it and posting back CheesePoofs?
