Norton System Works 2006 FREE AR

Is there a good alternative. I really like "speeddisk" and "windoctor" on my 2003.

Yeah, better ones...........Diskeeper for defragmenting, Kaspersky/Panda/a multitude of others for A/V, and windoctor is useless IMHO........better off without it.

Yum...free bloatware

errr..ummm...well, yeah. I do like Ghost, though - too bad they stopped shipping it with systemworks, that alone was worth getting it for....

It should be free..... since it will bring any PC to it's knee's.

Correctomundo......and if that isn't enough, try calling Symantec customer support. They charge by the hour to say you are SOL. Viola...no more "free" systemworks.

I have 2006 on my laptop and 2005 on my home PC. Making it less bloated takes a lil' work, but it's possible. First thing to do on 2006 is to take off the Protection Center. I also stopped the Norton's firewall process as well (services.msc is a wonderful thing).

The whole reason that Systemworks is bloated in the first place is because of it's user base. It is made for people that don't know better when a pop-up asks them to install an ActiveX component in order for them to receive their free I-Pod. At least you know that by installing Systemworks, you aren't gonna download a virus (much less anything else 😛)
