Well, apparently you can only install with a given product key a certain number of times. I upgraded in November, reformatted... Reformatted again for Vista... And now I can't activate the damn thing (Norton Internet Security 2007) without buying another key. I understand keeping it on one system, but ffs...

Yea, I'm sure many of us already had this opinion but... Stay away from Symantec. And good luck getting someone on the phone who's willing to discuss this issue.
 
While I enjoy other Symantec products such as Ghost, PCAnywhere, and SAV Corporate, I must say that their home security products are rather bloated and software activation is rather annoying.

Free AOL Kaspersky>Norton 😉

I hear Symantec's phone support is lacking, but I was able to get a CSR to reset the number of activations on a key a few years ago. However I'm sure a lot has changed since then.

FWIW I tried installing NAV07 on a 2nd pc a few weeks ago and the activation failed. Since you also appear to be limited to 1 activation I don't consider this a fluke. NAV07 takes a long time to install (compared to NOD32 and others) and one would think that if the key fails to activate you could click 'back' and enter a new key. :disgust:

I've called em 3 times, the first guy said he reset it but the second two said very sternly that they couldn't do a thing about it (and tbh the second time I was pissed off enough to complain a lil bit, even though it wasn't her fault).

I'm definitely going with the AOL thing, I have it installed on my old PC and laptop and its been great.
 
what is AOL VS's system requirement for old pc/laptop?

I have switched from full fledged ZoneAlarm Pro Suite 6.0 with antivirus to brand new zonealarm pro 7.0 without antivirus and installed AVS they run so wonderful...

now my PC feels so secure. 🙂
 
I can not seem to find specifically where the system requirements are for AOL AVS, but I imagine it would be similar to Kaspersky. I highly suggest that anyone who does not have NOD32, Kaspersky, or AOL AVS, to go ahead and download AOL AVS as that is better than every other anti virus in terms of security effectiveness and it is free. There are performance options in the program itself as well, should you find it running too slow on default.

Happened to me last month. They told me to send them a copy of my invoice to reactivate.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

No more Norton for me.

 
I swore to never buy Norton again when they screwed me over on Systemworks. They listed (on THEIR website) that the normal version of Systemworks came with Ghost. I thought it was awkward since only Premier ever came with Ghost, but it was shown in a couple of places on their site. So, I bought the standard version (I mainly wanted AV and Ghost)... yeah, their website was wrong and it didn't have Ghost in it. I got quite pissed off as Symantec refused to give me a copy of Ghost (hey, it's not my fault they improperly advertised their own product in multiple places on their website). They told me to go through some horridly long refund process, which would end up delaying my installation by... ohh about a month. Best part is, even after I drilled them over their improper listings, there were STILL places on their website that listed Ghost as part of Systemworks standard.

Also, when you install it, leave off the optional security toolbar. I have a couple more pics with recommended configuration suggestions on this page (enabling optional detection for potentially-dangerous stuff, and scheduling a daily virus scan).
