Norton Speedisk won't perform an 0% defrag

Hi, the title may be confusing.

what i mean is after i ran a defragmentation using Norton Speedisk 2002.(Norton Utilities)

when i do an analyze for each drive. the drives i frequently use(have not do any job yet) still have 3% to 5% fragment.

how do i eliminate that?

i remember Speedisk 2000 (norton utilities) gives me 0% fragment after the job.

will doing it twice help?

thanks

aiya,

if i am performing an optimization on my drive E, will browsing through the web make my C and E drive fragment?

i have only 1 harddrive. 3 Partitions.

i know my previous speedisk will restart and restart everytime i do something else when optimizing.

but this version won't.

running WinXP pro.

Drive C is mostly my applications.

Drive D is games

Drive E is storage: Mp3, movies, Drivers backup, documents

Drive F is storage: Old mp3, old movies, Win98 Drivers backup, old documents. 🙂 (backup from old hardddrive)

aiya, i have 4 partitions. not 3.

Hi Faye

I know that this doesn't answer your question but I just wanted to say that I was a big-time "Norton Utility" guy for a lot of years, as I still use most of the utilities but I do not use "Speedisk" anymore since I found a defrag utility much superior to Nortons. That is why I am posting this, FYI.

Its called "Executive Software Diskeeper". The reason why I started using this one is because Nortons "Speedisk" would often not work on my C: but always on my other drives.

Here's what would happen, I would start Nortons "Speedisk" and then check on it to see if it ws done but I found it going back to start again and then after it got to about 45-60% done it would do that again, so thats when I started looking for another defrag utility. And if you are wondering, yes I closed out all active programs so that Nortons "Speedisk" would work, sometimes thatwas successful but most of the times it wasn't...very frustrating.

So anyway heres the linky-poo if you would like to DL it and try it for 30 days, oh! BTW, its sold for, I think $40.oo at the local stores and only 29.00 from their website. 😀

Linky-poo

Oops. I forgot to say that after the 30 day demo had concluded I bought the full version from there 🙂

Later.............TP

i heard many good thing about Diskeeper, may be i will give it a try.

Toothpick, this may help other people too. 🙂

i just installed Diskeeper. the orientation screen just won't go away.!!!!

error...

Another good point on this utility is that when Nortons would not work correctly I gave Diskeeper a try and it worked EVERYTIME successfully when Nortons would not.

The only down point is the price, cause your spending $29.00 (or $40.oo retail) for just a defrag tool, but if your like me a big time gamer and photo manipulator defragging frequently is a must 🙂

Your problem is that SDNT is horrible. Nobody should use Speed Disk on an NT platform.

If you want to just defrag, use the built-in defragmenter. It's a strip-down version of Diskeeper. If you like it, the full version would be a step up.

I personally suggest PerfectDisk from Raxco. It's quicker, in my opinion, and also optimizes file placement.

sechs said It's quicker, in my opinion

another point for Diskeeper that I forgot to say, its far faster then Nortons too.

i can't get Diskeeper Workstation working.

it is only 3.73MB installed(ctrl panel/uninstall)

i am locked at the Welcome Screen where i suppose to click the OK button to go on. but nothing will happen when i click.

i need to terminate it by taskmanager.

PerfectDisk is working, but i can't tell which is better. Speed is a big problem for other people. i always turn it on and do something else. Getting the job done is the priority.
