I hae just installed Norton firewall professional on my laptop and when it is enabled, I cannot access the net. I have xp sp2 also, and i have access when I disable norton, which really makes it pointless having it installed in the first place. I am currently working overseas and access the net either wirelessly or through a LAN connection. It is a LAN connection I am currently using, and have yet to try it on a wireless network. I have tried the help and support center and some of their fixes, but nothing has worked as yet.
If I am online and I enable it, it disconnects everything instantly with no warnings, and if i try and go online when it is on, it will not connect and again, there are no popups or warnings.
Please help as I need a good firewall, and i need the net. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, the same thing happens on my Laptop, too, when i run mcafee firewall. Right now, your firewall is filtering out your wireless connection, be it your wireless router, or whatnot, because the firewall sees it as a threat trying to access your computer. I'm not sure about Norton since I use mcafee, so you'll have to figure out a way to do it yourself, though I can give you tips. The exact feature you are looking for is for an option to block/enable IP Addresses. To find what IP address you are using, find some sort of Warning Log and look through it to see what address is frequently blocked. Once you find it, try to find the option to enable communication with that IP address. Sorry, I can't give you any specific information because I use Mcafee, but at least now you should know your problem and a possible remedy.

norton internet "security" is a sludge. Dump that and switch to Outpost Pro http://agnitum.com they have a $20 refugee special if you can prove ownership of your previous firewall.

Alternatively you can use the SP2 securtity control center to disable the XP firewall outright.
