Norton AV8 error on install? Please help?

I tried installing a copy of norton antivirus 8 corporate edition on one of my PC's running windows xp home. It failed on the install right after a required reboot. Now it tries to continue the install every time I boot up. It does not show up in the installed programs under 'add/remove programs' I don't see anything that could be starting the process using msconfig under the startup and services tabs. How can I get rid of this problem?

Try to install it again.

The thing that's starting the install process is probably in the same place in the registry that "updates settings" after an installation is complete and you reboot, rather than being an application in any of the startup locations.

I assume this is an illegal copy.
 
Thanks for the suggestions guys. It is a leagal copy.

I tried reinstalling it. No go
I tried uninstalling it. no go. It does not show in the installed program dialog.
I tried installing norton internet security which has norton antivirus with it. It refused to install saying nav was already installed.

If I could only find out how the installer is launched at windows boot I would just disable it there for now and figure out how to get rid of it all together later.

Anyone know how this thing is started right when windows starts? I have checked all the startup folders and used msconfig.

After re-reading your suggestion. I looked deeper into the registry and found the entry where it was and removed the key.

Thanks. At least now it is not bugging me when booting. Maybe it is time to reinstall xp from scratch.
