Norton Antivivus 2002 no longer scans?! DO I HAVE A VIRUS???

i updated w/latest virus defs today.

last complete scan was last month (march). no viruses.

i ran a scan today because my machine's been randomly rebooting lately.

about 10 min into the scan, i get this error msg:

"norton antivirus was unable to scan your computer for infections. the virus scan has failed because a critical error occurred during the scan."

WHAT TO DO? HOW TO FIX?

Uninstall Norton 2002 and get something modern. Schadenfroh has a writeup of 11 antivirus apps, some of which are free for single-computer home use.

NAV 05 might be bloast and resource hog you should stick with nav 2002.
