Well, I have been nursing a grudge for more than ten years after an ugly experience with Norton for Windows NT that required a complete Windows reinstall, and other bad experiences over the years.

After reading the reviews, especially those of the users here, whom I greatly respect, I just gave Internet Security 2009 a try. What a difference. In recent years I've used PC Tools, ESET, CA, and others. Norton definintely beats them.

Thanks to bsobel. Your coming here and talking to us is a great help and your input helped me get over my Norton neurosis. :)

See http://www.symantec.com/norton...comparison.jsp?pcid=mp for full details, but yes NAV does include browser exploits.

Edit: Also, what kind of activation is on this product? How many times can it be installed (on different machines), and how many times can it be re-installed (on the same machine),

The usual license you'll find retail is a 3 machine license, so you can install it on upto 3 machines. Reinstalls don't count towards that.

and will it eat an activation, if I install it now on xp 32-bit, and re-install it later on on Vista 64-bit, on the same hardware?

Honestly I'll have to ask, it should not but manual intervention may be required. I'll check.

Bill

This is probably a dumb question but that means if I have it installed on a current pc but I wanted to reformat the drives for a nice, fresh feeling OS... when I reinstall norton on it there are no more activations eaten up, correct?

Correct. If for some reason their are (there is a hardware id, like windows) then support can help fix that, but for the vast majority of users its supposed to be completely transparent.
