Luck has everything to do with it. No CPU can be guaranteed overclockability. Although newer steppings increases your chances, when it comes down to how much you can overclock, it's the amount of cooling you have, and luck. I have my P3 cC0 stepping running from default 650 at 1100MHz, but I've heard cC0 steppings who were maxed out way before that, so I consider myself lucky and let it be that.

Wow, that's a 170Mhz fsb! What kind of motherboard and memory, and what settings for the ram.

Lets sum up this thread...

If you want to buy a processor with the highest mhz or like Intel buy Intel.

If you want to buy the best processor for price/performance or like AMD then buy AMD.

If you want to be happy then enjoy your Holidays. :)

Lets not lose sight of whats really important we are all here bickering about who makes the better processor while we have thousands and thousands of troops over in Afghanastan that don't get to spend the holidays with their loved ones. So just be thankful for what you have.

Happy Holidays to all.....

The core voltage on a certain non production 2.2 gig 512k L2 cache chip I have is 1.5 volts. So not only is it faster than a speeding bullet, it runs slightly cooler than my .18 micron 1.7 P4 even while running Prime 95. YAA (yet another advantage) of this chip.

The CPU looks nice, but the price is way too high. From the looks of the Willamete price changes, I don't think it's going to drop all that fast either. The 2GHz is still $400. That is way too much to be spending. If the prices on these CPU's could become a bit more aggressive, I would be more interested. The 10% performance gain is a nice addition, and the ability to scale more is always welcome. Nothing like a die shrink. You would think that the price would be a little more reasonable with cheaper production stemming from the die shrink... oh well. Anyway, looks nice, but I'm going to hold onto my 1GHz TBird C variant for quite a while longer. That 2.2GHz will goto waste in my systems. I will always enable as many video features as I can until the video card becomes the bottleneck and CPU performance doesn't matter anymore (To a certain point). So poop on this $400+ on CPU's, that's just nonsense.

It ought to run significantly cooler, considering the move from .18 to .13.

I'd be a little disappointed if it's only a couple degrees. Any ideas on the heat dissipation / power consumption?
