Northface jackets

My current North Face coat is thus far the longest surviving winter coat I've owned by a signifigant margin.

I"ve had one for about 8 years, wore it year round till the wife finally got me a new one for xmas. It works well, is comfortable, and that's all I care about.

I saw people wearing them in HS - definitely a fashion statement. They must be okay though, but they are kind of expensive. I'm satisfied with my Columbia jacket that I got fairly cheap at Kohls 2.5 years ago.

ANyone notice the amount of zippers they got rid of on the denali fleeces? My gf got one 5 years ago....she bought another one 6 month ago only to find out that they cuts corners by getting rid of half teh zippers (not like they needed though). Atleast the price has stayed constant this whole time. My gf is pissed that the COlumbia Titanium fleece I got cost $40 and is just as comparable to her Northface.

NF has great stuff......but also stuff that'll leave you scratching your head versus the competition on a dollar-to-dollar basis.

Other makers offer as good if not better features for equal or less money. All one has to do is look around and shop.

Brands that frequently go on sale but have great/better features is Outdoor Research and Marmot. LL Bean is also very good.

I really like my Carhartt jacket that I got last fall.

I got a fairly light one so I could actually get some use out of it (the heavier ones would have been unwearable except for a few days in Houston, but you definitely need a jacket in the winter of some sort).

When it gets cold enough, I wear it with a warm zip-up hoody underneath and I couldn't be warmer. Great jacket.

They're nice jackets and as a trend don't really bother me as ... they're nice jackets and they do their job. Living in socal don't have too much use for them, but living in the SF Bay Area I would grab mine if it rained or on colder nights. Although I suppose to be fair, even then usually I just grabbed a sweater (heh, yay CA weather).

Yeah, Northface has always been around. Brands like Spyder and Descente were the fads. Half the quality and twice the price.

Personally, I ski with an awesome Volcom shell I found on sale about 4 years ago. The thing has the toughest material I've ever found on a jacket.

I don't think they make them to handle the kind of weather we get. I will stick with my Carhartt's. I was stuck working outside for about eight hours at -52F and I was breaking a sweat.

They are expensive and have been pretty damn popular since grade school. Shit looks warm though.

I wear a Columbia shell that is useless in winter without layering. Works for me cause I get hot after walking for 5 minutes and like to strip.
