Northern Illinois - LAN Party (Mostly CS. Also UT, Q3, RTCW...)

I hosted a LAN party for people who play on my CS server back in December and it went GREAT. Some regs drove all the way from Nebraska for the LAN since they were going to be in the area. I purchased a 24-port switch and 20A power cables, and 2000ft of CAT5e just to be prepared and over 48 people showed up.. pictures from that LAN are here.

I'm hosting a LAN at the very same place (Joliet, Illinois Holiday Inn Ballroom) on Saturday June 15th, 2002 yet again and as of right now we have room for about 20 or so more people. Click here for the info page. On the page it says we're limited at 40, but I just got a hold of a couple 10 port hubs a friend is going to let us borrow so we'll be set. The first people to show up or people with reserved spots who pre-payed will be on the fully switched network (pure 10/100 switched) and the rest will be placed on the hubs uplinked to the switches. We mainly play CS, but with this LAN we'll be opening up to a lot more. We host a lengthy 5v5 CS tournament which is double elimination. We'll possibly be having a 1v1 CS tournament also, despite being against what CS is all about, we'll probably use a DM type map such as fy_iceworld. If anyone is up for a game of Q3 1v1 or if you've got a group of guys we could even do a CTF tournament.. most of the attendees play CS or UT however.

Also on the page it says that there won't be prizes, but I'm pretty sure I'll be working something out with BAWLS Guarana and 2CoolTek again.


 
I used to live in Deerfiend (something like a 10 min drive from Gurnee?). It's about a 2hr 15min drive.. 🙂

I've gone to parties from MidwestFRAG (www.midwestfrag.org) before and it was a 3hr drive. 😀 The drive did suck though, but there was about a hundred people there.
 
Don't think so.. it does sound familiar though. Then again I only lived there a year. I did get to see the Bulls practice in the center before they moved into the one they have now though with more security and everything.. that was a blast. Then I moved around the Joliet area down here. I think my parents got pissed because everybody drove like a maniac around the northshore. 🙂

then how would I/half the people there bring their computers 😉
 
That's really just a disclaimer. I don't promote illegal software as the host, but if persons were to want to trade stuff of that nature, and I didn't see it happen... then nobody would know, right? Hehe.

But as a disclaimer we do not condone illegal/pirated software. 🙂
 
We have 30 people going now. Nobody from Anandtech yet, though. For those of you from Illinois you should join up!
