Northeast mountains ...

Hello,

we are looking into hiking some mountains in north east ... at least about 6000ft ....

found Mount Mitchell, but it's seems that the road goes right up there :| .... we are looking for some wilderness ...

anybody know good mountains ?

Ummmm, Mt Mitchell is in North Carolina, which is not the northeast.

Something in West Virginia looks like your best bet. Everything else is going to be a serious haul from Cleveland.

That is the place to go. There are many, many trails in NH of all skill levels. I have hiked most of them over quite a few years. The Presidentials are the tallest, with Mt Washington being the greatest in elevation. BTW, there is a road that goes to the top, but you would be mistaken to assume that Washington is easy from all sides. Also, I do not know when you plan to hike, but be careful of weather in the Presidentials. While Washington is less than 7000 feet, it is known for the worst weather in the world. People who climb the Rockies and poo poo Washington die every so often from overconfidence.

In Maine, there is another mountain, Katahdin. It is spectacular, moreso than any other I have climbed. The Knifes Edge trail goes around the summit from the lesser Pamola peak, to Baxter peak. In places it is only a few yards wide, and you are several thousand feet up. You will never forget it.
