northbridge question

I'm trying to remove the northbridge heatsink on my A8N Deluxe and install a Zalman cooler on it but I'm wondering how do I get off those sping/push pin things on the old one? I can't seem to figure out how, and I don't want to break anything 😛

that's wierd, i did teh exact same thing to the exact same board.....are you using the big passive zalman heatsink deal ?

anyway, if i remember correctly, the pins go through to the bottom of the mobo. you just have to squeeze the ends of the pins together from the bottom w/ some needle nose pliers or something. Then just pull the pin out from the front while squeezing the ends together from the back. let us know how it works.

needle nose pliers are a must, i have a pair with a curved nose too so i can get a proper grip whilst clearing all the vital components

or u can use tweezers

just push the to little flappy bits to gether and with your other hand push the pin back through the hole

dont do what ive done before and use 2 screw drivers! i slipped and took out a resistor! but i was lucky everything stil works.

you can if you have nails on your fingers do it by hand, but sometimes that hurts!

Hi, I'm not sure about the ones you have, but some of those fasteners are locked in by the pin. You have to just pull the pin first and then the rest will just pull out. Luck, Jim

although I have another question, what do you use t clean off the chipset before you put new thermal compound on?
