May 27 (Bloomberg) -- North Korea threatened military action in response to South Korea joining a program to seize weapons shipments, and said it?s no longer bound by the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean War. South Korea?s actions are tantamount to a ?declaration of war,? the official Korean Central News Agency said in a statement today. ?If the armistice agreement loses its validity, the Korean peninsula will revert to a state of war.?

Seems North Korea is running out of options. They are super pissed that the US and South Korea will be stopping their ships.

don't worry, I'm sure this will all be resolved with some finger wagging and a stern UN resolution.

North Korea has threatened war over perceived wrongs for years. They are like the spoiled brat who didn't get his way.

BHO will cave and kiss their butt so we've nothing to worry about.

Dude, if NK wanna strike SK, they would do so without warning. Their warning is another way of telling SK and US they want attention and $$.

NK's strike on SK would mean reunification. SK's military is potent enough to ward off NK's aging military, not to mention inevitable participation by the U.S. Not gonna happen. Then again, China won't be too pleased that a U.S. ally shares it's border once Korea is unified.

North Korea's strike on South Korea would mean reunification of a devastated Korean peninsula along with an unspeakable humanitarian crisis. God willing, it never happens. North Korea knows that their regime would be destroyed by such an action, they aren't stupid. They won't attack SK unless they feel they have no other option.

An apology from Obama would probably help.

It would be a disaster.

I love how people try and use logic to say it would never happen. Logic could have stopped most wars in history, yet they still happen.

Trying to apply our logic to a regime that none of us know much about is niave at best.

How is that? That regime acts on one principle above all others, the preservation of the regime.

It will happen eventually. The longer they wait, the more lopsided against them the war would become. If they still hold reunification as one of their ultimate goals, then they have a better chance now than they will later.

Do South Koreans really want to unify with the North? I mean that would be such a huge drain on their economy to lift he completely inept and institutionalized North Korea out of third world status, it will make German unification look like a cakewalk.
Anyways, Kim Jong Il needs to be told to put up or shut up. If he wants to start sh!t, let him live with the consequences.

Original - I know South Korea could win a World of Warcraft battle.

Fixed - I know South Korea could win a Starcraft battle.

With our Armed Forces being over stretched, along with us basically having no money, I would hope the rest of the world would come through with ground troops and resources. If China truly wants to be a world player, they would see through the Red ties and come to the aid of the alliance that would be formed to destroy the North.

The thought of having a spoiled brat ape thrashing around in his pen, insessantly beating his chest and throwing hissy fits at every passerby that ignores him is at once hilarious yet kind'a frightening to think that that ape is dragging, bumping and brandishing some nuclear weapons tied around his waist.

North Korea will get curb stomped back to the stone age if they actually proceed with "military action"

who was a bigger threat to civilization.. NK or Iraq -- remember.. NK sells their weapons to any nation.. Iraq was 10000% in check.. and couldn't do shit to harm anyone.. but the families of dead US and Coalition soldiers thank all the deferment and draft dodging politicians who murdered their family members for no reason

Yes, but have they said the armistice is toilet paper before? I assume not but I'm not positive.

Yes, they'll be a threat no longer, but unlike Iraq (dahuman's post above makes sense to me), they have nukes. It's like the movie Red Dawn where the person has a grenade under them. They got killed but then when their body was flipped they blew up the Ruskie.

NK's doing what they always do when they want attention or some food/oil/concession: they rattle their saber a little bit. Of course over time that becomes less and less effective, so they need to keep coming up with bigger more attention-grabbing sabers, like nukes and missiles.

I agree with eskimo, over time they've shown themselves to be nutty in some ways, but very rational in terms of doing whatever they think they need to do in order to maintain the regime. The leadership is out of touch with reality, but they are not suicidal. Unless they are absolutely forced into a corner, they won't do anything likely to result in their crushing.

Their relationship with us is far more important to them than their alliance with NK.
