Declarations of war require congressional approval. He wouldn't be covered under any existing authorizations of force.

He doesn't need any authorization to initiate hostilities but rather to continue them-

The War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without a Congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States. The resolution was passed by two-thirds of Congress, overriding the veto of the bill from President Nixon.

Witness Libya, Kosovo, Grenada & probably others I don't remember.

The War Powers Resolution is likely un-Constitutional as it conferred to the President powers clearly granted to Congress under Article 1, Section 8. Under the guise of limiting Presidential power, the War Powers Resolution does the exact opposite.

So what? Only Congress has the standing to sue & only after the fact.

Based on what actions he's done in the past?

How do you know there's zero threat if he gets nukes capable of being put on missiles? I think it's more likely he'd try to grab concessions from the West once achieved, but I wouldn't say there's zero threat to US.

The Democrats are a lot of times feckless when it comes to foreign policy. Many of them give signals they'll do nothing militarily, so North Korea is embolden to take the chance. If Trump administration's rhetoric (though stupid of Donnie to draw a red line on threats) doesn't get them to come to the table, sanctions that have no chance and don't have the purpose of crippling the regime certainly won't. I mean, those are the same guys who were scared ****less over exposing Russia during the elections because they thought Russia would retaliate by screwing with our power plants and stuff.

“The idea that Kim Jong Un’s decisions, particularly about his nuclear weapons program, are irrational is a myth,” Town said.

I see stuff like this all the time. It basically says the US will do nothing then.

NK just released an official threat so the ball is back in Trump's court.

it just happened, so i can't find a copy yet.

From NK
In a statement today, Gen. Kim Rak Gyom, commander of the Strategic Force of the Korean People's Army, said Trump's comments warning of "fire and fury" fail to grasp the ongoing situation, calling the U.S. president a "guy bereft of reason."

"[O]nly absolute force can work on him," the statement reads.

In other words, "Fuck you orange boy, Bring it on."

I guess the Trump lemmings are really pleased with themselves

Ugh the people around Trump need to shove him Ina. Hole somewhere for a week. NK has always blustered like this. What has kept it to just bluster is that US Presidents haven't engaged and entertained it. Trump doesn't have that capacity.

This was always my fear of him becoming President. He's too impulsive and petulant to be able to handle situations like this in a way they need to be handled.

So, to answer my question, your answer is he hasn't done anything except tough talk. Got it. Now stop being a scared shitless pussy.

Also, just an fyi, north Korea =/= Russia. Russia has a history, north Korea does not.

Bin Laden agrees with you. Oh yeah, that's right. He's dead.

so this specific threat by NK is that they will launch 4 missiles over Japan and land near Guam to prove their capabilities and that the plan will be complete by August.

I'm not scared. lol So your idea of doing something is bull*** diplomacy where you already admit to Kim you'll do nothing? Why would he come to the table for what you want then? You're probably one of those guys who also thinks since the US has nukes, anyone else should to. And that it doesn't matter if proliferation is rampant.

Also, just an fyi, north Korea =/= Russia. Russia has a history, north Korea does not.

Huh? Putin is less rational than the punk kid? Also, talk about being a pussy if you agreed with their assessment that they should cower to Russia over them blatantly meddling in the election.

Bin Laden agrees with you. Oh yeah, that's right. He's dead.

Bin Laden shows little. You might as well add all the drone strikes he approved of.

I don't suppose you can substantiate that slur....

I don't suppose you can substantiate that slur....

It was in a long article weeks back. There were other reasons such as cowering to McConnell and wanting to protect his "legacy". Sorry, but he was feckless in a lot of ways.

So, the answer is that you can't substantiate it & have shifted slurs....

I don't think that NK is going to attack the US, I think that if we continue to escalate the rhetoric they are going to do something so stupid that Trump is going to feel forced to react. Something like testing a nuke by firing it over Japan and into international waters near Guam. Trump would not be able to let something like that just pass.

Lol, it's not like economic sanctions have ever worked against a foreign power that we view as an adversary.

Do you even history bro? Lol, freaken idiots.

Here you go

“Why wasn’t it more important to tell the American people the length and breadth of what the Russians were doing to interfere in an election than any risk that it might be seen as putting your hand on the scale?” Mr. Schiff asked. “Didn’t the public have a compelling need to know?”

This ^^^ was even more pathetic.

Obama’s secret struggle to punish Russia for Putin’s election assault

They were concerned that any pre-election response could provoke an escalation from Putin. Moscow’s meddling to that point was seen as deeply concerning but unlikely to materially affect the outcome of the election. Far more worrisome to the Obama team was the prospect of a cyber-assault on voting systems before and on Election Day.

U.S. Govt. Hackers Ready to Hit Back If Russia Tries to Disrupt Election

lol That was MY point. I already told you the sanctions from the international community don't have the purpose of crippling them. They generally don't work because nations don't want to give up trade. Many don't want to spend for conventional defense, after all. With Iran, we still had tons doing trade with them, and our partners (e.g. Japan/South Korea) would get impatient.
