i just received a gold quarter as change today.

Are these official gold quarters from the US Mint? or are 3rd party gold plating them and selling for profit?

I know that you can get them in an all silver proof set but not sure whether you can get them in gold or not. I just saw a documentary on this and there is division of the US mint on the West Point property that mints gold coins. There is 60 billion dollars worth of gold there! :Q
 
Hmmmm... it'd be pretty easy to gold plate a bunch of quarters and sell them as "24 karat gold plated state quarters" at flea markets. 🙂
