BISMARCK, ND?The stage was set for another international showdown Monday, when chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix confirmed that the remote, isolationist state of North Dakota is in possession of a large stockpile of nuclear missiles.

After initially offering no comment on the report, North Dakota officials admitted to having a stockpile of 1,710 warheads at two military sites and confirmed that the state has been home to an active nuclear-weapons-development program for decades.

Well, yes. In my military career, we had 100 silos at Grand Forks. Take the 100 silos - which had Minuteman III missiles in them at the time (3 warheads) and that will make 300 for the base alone. Then, you have to add in the numbers for Minot. It also appears they had plenty of "spares" on reserve, if needed.

A friend of mine in High School joked that North Dakota didn't really exist. It was all cardboard people and cows. And when the big red button was pushed, the whole state would move and nuclear missles would fly out.

I guess the stock pile is against some treaty the US signed? Why does this matter? Did the world not know the US has a huge arsenal?

I was going to ask if you were from the US, but I see from your profile you are actually from Texas. ;)

You will all die for ridiculing my home state, the launch countdown has begun...

There's a county in ND with about 30% of the population sharing my last name:D

It's kind of hard to determine what the actual wording was in the agreement. The agreement may have only called for us to dismantle the weapons - and not destroy them. The U.S. would be stupid to destroy them. Heck, if we could have 5 nukes put back in the ground in 2 days, we'd be doing great. Rock 'n Roll, Baby! ;)
