North Carolina or Texas?

Have the opportunity with my work for a training visit to either go to Dallas, TX on 10/18 or Raleigh, NC on 12/6. I've never been to either place nor flown since I was young.

Which place would be the best one to visit?

Edit: Going for a week.

Added the VA option... it's on my allowed list, but didn't sound as good as the other two.

I grew up in Dallas and I think Raleigh is a better place to visit much of the year, however Raleigh in december is not going to be as nice as Dallas in mid-October. Go with Dallas.

Yep, and the State Fair ends on 10/17, even though I think that whole thing is overated as hell. Who really wants to eat fried jellybeans and fried coke?

Never been to NC, but Texans are insane. Football hats/jerseys/bumper stickers are like gang colors - bad things have been known to happen to those that have the wrong set in the wrong place. Some of them really do think they are cowboys. The Texan flag is almost always flown level with the American, and it's not unheard of for it to be flown above the American flag. Tea Partiers are also pretty thick down there.

A lot of the above isn't true for Austin, but they're definitely weird in their own special way.

Raleigh, NC on 12/6 hands down. Snow, Christmas decorations and music, good places to go for food and drinks. Dallas is only fun if you're dripping hundreds.

that will be a gorgeous time weather-wise, you can catch a sports game (Mavs/Stars/Rangers/Cowboys), Addison and Uptown are great places to go out, the stock yards in Fort Worth are cool, lots of museums to go to, state fair if OP can go a little early (it ends 10/17). Plenty to do.

I actually prefer Houston and Austin to Dallas. If he were to go to Houston I could recommend the space center, museum district, and a bunch of other fun stuff. I guess I just don't know Dallas all that well.

Your options suck...Either way, you're looking at potentially unpleasant weather conditions. Hot in Dallas, cold & wet in NC...but personally, I'd choose Raleigh...Dallas just has too many Texans for my liking...

Having lived in Dallas for five years, I'd say definitely go to North Carolina. If you had an opportunity to go to Austin, I'd vote differently.

OP you will enjoy either location and the weather shouldn't be a factor. DFW will have a much wider variety of things to do but will also require you cover more miles.
Really vastly different areas your comparing, DFW is home to approx 7mil people where Raleigh's population is about 400k. If you go with Raleigh you can pretty much cover everything you want to see in a week no problem, if you go with Dallas planning your time will be more important because you can spend a couple of months here and just get the tip of the iceberg.

Yeh. I don't really get it either. I've worked with a bunch of people native from Texas. Vacationed in other countries with people from Texas. Spent several weeks there. Traveled through it several times, ect. And I have to say they were some of the friendliest, down to earth, and helpful people I've been around.

As for as this topic...I'd choose NC though just because I think the geography in that area is more interesting.

well, if you're going with DFW, then why not compare to the Triangle Area? (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) About 1 million in the entire area, also the highest concentration of PhDs in the world! /feels good, man.

Sure, DFW is a massive place, but depending on what you're into, there's a shit-ton to do in and around Raleigh.

fwiw, I really have no interest in spending a week (or month, as you say) going to rodeo after rodeo, hobnobbing with cowboys, purchasing giant hats and making cocksure proclamations of size as if it's somehow relevant. (yes, I'm being intentionally ignorant here ).

Anyway, the main point is that there is easily just as much to do and see around Raleigh. ...and the food is way better. ...except probably the mexican/texican food.
