North and South Korea agree to discuss military tensions... without US

The stable genius is finally tweeting his way into making the US totally irrelevant in the Korean peninsula. South Korea has decided to go it alone and discuss military tensions with the North. This will not include any talks about "denuclearization", because North Korea has already stated it has no interest in giving up its weapons.

I think this is great news. Hopefully South Korea agrees to throw US troops off the peninsula and maybe there can be reunification talks eventually. They have already stated that the North will be sending athletes to the olympics in the South. It is ironic but it seems like Trump is, in his own idiotic way, bringing peace to the world. Everyone can unite against the US and its dotard president.

This is not the first time North and South Korea have had independent talks with each other. In fact, the very solution to the Korean divide is for the two to talk to each other. The US's presence is there as a deterrence for the pendulum to swing in the completely wrong direction, especially now since we have very, very strong economic ties to the peninsula.

Surprise surprise, I guessed that this is where we were headed last week. China has their hands all over this--they've convinced our 2nd biggest ally in Asia (next to Japan) that American influence is no longer needed.

South Korea should be taking steps to negotiate with the North Koreans. They have more at stake than anyone else.

I don't blame China, this lands firmly on Trump for his behavior. If the Chinese have been working behind the scenes it is because they are working an opening that Trump created.

Agreed. Just a small part of a worsening problem for the failing Trump presidency. The world is looking away from the US and toward the east now thanks to Trump's actions. Our stock is falling and people are fleeing the country in droves. The airports are swamped and here's the proof:

I’m not sure I can see the problem, if they can achieve a peace together then we are better off.

For everybody saying this is a good thing (which objectively it probably is for SK) it will also mean the near total defeat of US strategic and political influence in a big chunk of Asia. NK will keep the nukes but ratchet down in exchange for economic relief, interest in the current sanctions regime will evaporate. US gets nothing. SK probably drifts closer into China's influence orbit.

Oh it's real bad news for the US military industrial complex. No more warmongering and probably vastly reduced sales of weapons, no more joint military exercises with ROK forces off the coast of the peninsula. Who knows, SK might actually decide to throw out those rapey, drunk-driving US marines

Mattis is gonna be SO pissed.

I can't wait to see what skirt-swishing political prostitute Nikki Haley has to say about all this.

It's Winter Olympics time and N & S Korea sure are getting chummy.
I always said.... the real threat of nuclear war would not come solely from NK, but from NK and an un-holy alliance.
N & S Korea unifying as one would be an un-holy alliance.
I could see the two coming together united for a common cause.
The question is, would the South influence the North, or vice versa?
Could the North convince the South to step in line?

I suppose its a good thing, for them, if they forgave and forget. And opened up relations.
But eventually one side would have more influence over the other. Convince the other side that just maybe America does not hold their best interest at heart after all.
With Trump as president, the South uniting with the North then both thumbing their nose at Trump's Amerca wouldn't seem that shocking.
I doubt Trump's really cares much for either side. And they both probably realize that.

I am as paranoid as the next guy and I can see a hundred ways that this is a ploy by NK, that being said, NK and SK opening up relations is probably the best news I've read in a few years.

Absolutely true and if they work things out we need to vacate the premises.

She'll spout whatever dear leader tells her to as do all persons in that position. This administration is about as organized and unified as the debris in a flood yet they always seem to cause a train wreck.
