North America Is Missing Out On Good Cars

I was surfing the internet for car stuff today, and somehow I came upon this page
BMW 3 Series Sold In the UK

I was really surprised. The only cars on that list that you can buy here in America are the 325 and the 330. I think a lot of German car makers only export their top of the line models here to the U.S. Now this makes sense, because something like this with 100HP would not sell in America. But there's some other really good cars like this which I think would sell pretty well here. Though the price is listed at 21K pounds (~$30K), from my 7 year experience in the UK, most stuff sold there for a pound sells for a dollar here in the U.S. because they have all kinds of whackass taxes. For example, this here P.O.S. 128 Horse Power Toyota Camry sells for 24K pounds (~$35K) in the UK.

Getting back to the car though, that thing kicks some serious ass. Like most folks who don't own a BMW but desperatly want one, I don't have like $35K to spend on a BMW 330, but I could probably scrap together the $21K - $25K for one of these bad boys.

Oh well.

They want to be seen as an "Elite Car Manufacturer" - the last thing they want is to be seen selling "economy" cars in the U.S.

oh well.....I'll just get an Audi A4 1.8T....no loss there 🙂

Plus, BMW used to sell the 3-Series hatchback here but low sales prompted them to stop selling it here. Plus, if i wanted a luxo-hatchback, I'll just get the new Mercedes C-Class hatchback....no loss there. 🙂

That's because Americans hate hatchbacks. Along with station wagons, that's a European thing. The BMW 318 coupe, and 220 sedan could sell well here though. Audi's doing great business with their 1.8L A4, which - for someone like me looking for a "budget" European sedan - the best bet right now 😀

That's why Mercedes is calling the new C-Class Hatch a "Sport Coupe" 🙂
