I recall watching All in the Family as a child, because my parents watched it. One thing that strikes me thinking back on it was its treatment of racism as the object of parody. Not exactly how it is ever treated today, where no one jokes about racism anymore. It was groundbreaking at the time, however, as no one ever talked about racism on TV back then unless there was something on the nightly news.

I'm old enough to remember All in the Family, Good Times, The Jeffersons, and Star Trek and Voyage to teh Bottom of the sea. Good times, I did not know he was a liberal.

They were always just walking into the reactor on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. And usually several pyrotechnics went off when one of their control panels had a short somewhere. Good times.

RIP. BTW he was vital and active almost up to the end.

He is personally responsible for almost all the watchable TV (excluding PBS) that was publically broadcast in my lifetime. Caveat-I must admit that I haven't seen more than a few minutes (total) of what has been broadcast on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC in the past two decades, excluding 60 Minutes and the occasional evening news.

He went on a campaign to get out the vote before it was popular. He and Mel Brooks had a lifelong friendship that was always uplifting to read about. What a great human.

He outlived most of the cast members (both young and old) from his shows.

Didn’t know him and couldn’t stand to watch the show. I was probably too young to understand its humor and lessons. I also didn’t realize Rob Reiner was in the show as he looks nothing like the character any more. Interesting.

Jimmy Kimmel read an awesome letter from him last night before he did his monologue. F bombs every other word! Lol

You could tell Kimmel was very close to him during the broadcast and remaking of AiTF, GT, and TJ with current actors. If you haven't seen them look em up!
