Normal Temp for P4 2.52GHZ

I recently purchased an Intel Pentium 4 Processor @ 2.4"B" GHZ and bumped the FSB up to 140MHZ, making the system run at 2.52GHZ. I have a MSI 845G Max Motherboard w/ 1GB of Mushkin PC3000 DDR. On the processor I applied a thin coat of Arctic Silver II and used Intel's Retail Heatsink/Fan. I am running around 49-50 degrees celsius @ idle and around 58 degrees at load. Is there anything I should do to remedy this or is it normal for a processor running this speed. I've had a lot of experience with Athlon's but this is my first pentium custom install. I also tried running the speed of the chip @ stock 2.4GHZ and it still stayed around the same temp.

Thanks.

It could be early boards with the new i845g chipset and may have some reporting issues...have you tried using some other program or method of getting the temp???

My 1.8 when oc'd to 2.52ghz at 140fsb with 1.775v I would get 39c idle and 52c load...I use an AVC hsf (4000rpm) with AS2 on an asus p4s333 mobo....2 case fans

I think you are likely fine...stability should be the measuring stick here...don't worry you are not going to fry this thing. if it gets to hot it throttles down to protect the chip. This likely would take mid 60's to accomplish that...

What are your system temps?? Need some more case fans???

well, I've got two 80mm case fans, I had the cover off when I first made the observations, would putting the cover back on have any effect?

It may....try it...make sure that isn't going to increase temps anymore...

Check msi forums and see if there are any bios upgrades or reported temp reporting errors...my MSI Ultra i845 had some temp reporting error when I first got my northwood and subsequent bios upgrades I believed fixed them.

I've got a 1.8A that I have overclocked to 2.52 GHz using the same fsb of 140 MHz. I have an MSI 845 Ultra-ARU motherboard and have pretty much the exact same temperatures. I'm beginning to think that the MSI boards, for some reason, generate a lot of heat. Heh. But as Duvie said, I am completely stable so I'm not worrying about my high temperatures. I just have to make sure that I fight the urge to crank up the fsb once I get the air conditioner installed in my room. With some nice cold air flowing into the computer, I will be very tempted to rais my fsb up to try and get 2.7 GHz. lol.

MSI does have a BIOS update for the motherboard and I'll try installing that today. I was wondering one other thing though, when I looked at my PC Health info in the BIOS, it says that the Intel Fan is only running at around 2,600RPM...is that normal? Thanks.
