I was checking netstat for a list of open connections and I see the following entries

TCP 127.0.0.1:1517 127.0.0.1:1518 ESTABLISHED 2864 [firefox.exe]
TCP 127.0.0.1:1518 127.0.0.1:1517 ESTABLISHED 2864 [firefox.exe]

Can someone explain why firefox would open a port to the localhost? I'm not running a server on this machine or using proxies. Is this normal? or is this some sort of malware?

I have it too.

TCP chumby-ii:2818 localhost:2819 ESTABLISHED 1424
[firefox.exe]

TCP chumby-ii:2819 localhost:2818 ESTABLISHED 1424
[firefox.exe]
