Any NC and VA coastal residents here?

This evening's high tide is supposed to be coming close to Hurricane Isabel. 50-60 mph winds. My town has declared a state of emergency (we're on the chesapeake). One of the two roads out of town is closed because it's under water. I've heard that the water is starting to come over/through the dunes in the Outer Banks.

And I'm sitting at work drying to dry off after the walk through the parking lot. :(

I'm in VA. The rain and winds are pretty nasty, and driving is hazardous.

Stay safe people.

It's horrible, absolutely horrible. NYC just got hit. I'm taking shelter in a library, but I don't think we'll be able to stay here for the winter.

uhhh is Philly gonna get hit by this thing?

Doesn't look like it. It seems that the worst is concentrated over Hampton Roads and OBX.

Lots of flooding here. The governor declared a state of emergency. Norfolk mid-town tunnel is closed. James River Bridge is closed.

I'm just glad I live and work on the same side of the water.

We're getting lots of water in Poquoson.

Is this all the leftovers from Ida you guys are now getting? It's been raining here in SC for the past 2 days with some pretty strong gusts.

Not a Nor'Easter. It's Ida's remains. She's pissed and she's taking names.

the tv weather news lady just said that the remains of Ida have morphed into a Northeaster and is actually stronger/worse now than when it hit landfall as a tropical storm

good luck out there, it is sunny and 65F here

There were some puddles in part Hampton this morning & some big sticks down. Nothing bad yet.

The best quote (from Macrini on am790), "The places that usually flood are flooding worse than usual"

As far as I know, I'm at work until 1730. :(

The only good thing about today is that I found a set of rain gear here at work. I might have gotten wet coming in, but it's not going to be the case going back out. Should be nice and dry.

...

The powers that be are allowing my office to close early as well. :)

Hopefully, with low tide coming up, I'll be able to make it all the way home.

Oops, last I read yesterday it wasn't a Nor'Easter, but I see now that it is. She looks mighty nasty on radar! Apparently Ocean City, MD is getting pounded like Kyle Orton's mother.

At the am high tide water level at the hampton roads bridge tunnel was only about 4 feet below the road bed. If there was any serious wave action it would have been constantly cresting up over the side barriers and spraying onto traffic. The pm tide is supposed to be 1-2 feet higher and could be interesting.

Thankfully, friends of mine are being quite hospitable tonight.

There was no power for the last 3 miles on the trip home this afternoon. Driving back out, some had been restored.

I had to check out the harbor. The water was just barely contained. The road is maybe 10' above sea level, and they were calling for 8' seas.

i'm on an NC island, waves are low but the beach faces the south and the wind is blowing off shore. some of the sand is eroded away though. walking on the beach today though was damn near impossible, wind was gusting 35-40.
