I was at B.B. saw this, easy to open box looks exactly like a lite-on (it also had easy to open box) except it is labeled Norcent, exactly same specs except for not dual format. Anybody get one of these is it a Lite-On? Does it do DVD-R? Not hot but good deal $99 no rebates at a B&M and does 40X CD-R.

I had a Norcent CD writer, it was a royal piece of crap. If their DVD Burners are similar dont' buy one...

The Norcent is definitely a lite-on. It may say Norcent on the label, but the model number on the label is LDW-401S, which is the Lite-on 4x DVD+R drive model number. Also, the drive has a 12 digit serial number - a sure sign of a lite-on. I was gonna buy this drive, but I'll try to get the DVD +/- model instead on Friday (wish me luck).

Supposedly this drive can be made into a +/- drive by writing the +/- drive's (model LDW-411s) eeprom and firmware onto it.

if so, this bad boy is mine
All the Norcent boxes I saw at my BB are liteons. When you go to get one, look at the serial number on the outside of the box. If it is 12 numbers (no letters) then its a liteon. Also, just open up the box. None of the Norcent boxes I saw have any tape seals on them. If the drive label says model LDW-401S, that's a liteon.

So is it better to get the drive that jd103 brought up, or is it better to get the Norcent and flash the EEPROM? Any differences?
