I left Asus Probe on overnight and when I went to school today, and it lowered my speed by 400kkeys/s (down from 1.8MKeys/s). 🙁 🙁 🙁
 
I've found that Motherboard Monitor can have similar results on your key rate depending on its refresh rate.
 
Doh, I have MBM 4.18 sitting in my system tray and it doesn't lower my keyrate. You mean it does when its left as an open window?
 
Goi - If you use a utility like ATM (Another Task Manager) and view CPU usage I think you will see what I am referring to. MBM does not consume an unexpected amount of CPU time but to fine tune your system you may want to consider not running MBM. In my situation my system is quite stable so I no longer run MBM in the background.

Kilowatt - What is the Klinux equivalent of Motherboard Monitor?
My new Duron crackrack will need CPU temp monitoring for at least a few days.
 
Well, my system isn't that stable yet. Its a C566@850 and I'm trying to iron out an instability I'm getting when the soundcard is in use. I'm suspecting an IRQ conflict since my NIC and PCI to USB controller share the same IRQ. I've disabled both of them and looping mp3s and midi files, and so far no lockups...but then again that has nothing to do with temperatures 🙂

Anyway, I grew used to having the temperature displayed in my system tray, I think I'll stick with it since I'm not losing any keyrate performance...
 
I leave the probe running on the taskbar...I fixed the temp problem (I was constantly overheating before), so I guess I'll turn it off at night.

Would turning down the frequency at which it checks the temp/voltage make it less cpu-intensive? Right now I have them refresh that info every 3 secs.
 
RC, There isn't any "MBM" utility for Klinux.
Everything Klinux has included, needs to fit on a floppy.

Kilkowatt, so how does a person know if their system is running too hot. One can always assume the system is running too hot if there is stability problems.

I understand the size limitations with the floppy. After the system has started can I take the floppy out and stick another floppy in? If so perhaps I could find a Unix version of MBM?

Another alternative would be to purchase a digital temp probe. I don't know what they cost, hopefully not too much.

I need some way to monitor the temp of the Duron processors.
 
You know what? I was just reading something about a cheap setup with multiple temp probes the other day.
I'll go see if I can find it, and post the link back here.

I never really worried about problems with the Rack boards, as all of them have run Windows at one time or other.

I think what I'd do is setup the boards one by one as a Windows box, with a small HDD for a few days, to check out your temps and what-not before putting them on the Rack diskless.
