Thats my guess. Its just like the webmaster's "My hard drive wiped out last weekend and after contacting so and so, and trying this and this, I found no solution. It just happened, that the host had a power failure and due to the type of storage, it was all lost" excuse. I've seen it on many sites... *sigh*

Either the hacker thing was an excuse, Nvidia paid them, or they wanted to release around time of Doom 3 also, or a combination of those.
