The tank may have had to much fresh water for his system to handle?
The original location water content may have been slightly different and the shock of being transfered was more than his ancient system could take.

umm, sry to say this, but its an old ass lobster, it died, move on.

for some reason this thread reminds me of those commercials where everyone is standing around and there is a piece of trash on the ground and is complaining, someone comes by and pick it up and throws it away. and they all leave like nothing happened.
 
I'm sure it was the change in environment that was cause of his demise. It is almost alwas very stressful on animals to be moved around.

My girlfriends canary that she just bought less than 48 hours ago died this morning and I assume it was because it was stressed out.
 
If it's really that old, I'm sure the meat is probably not as good as when it was in its prime. Chewy and dry?
