hmm... interesting. but 23lbs and 275 servings? BS!! a meal if you are doing anything at all should probably be around a pound of food per day. 3 servings a day makes about 70 servings. there serving size is 1.3 oz...

edit... and MRE's are not bad. they have lots of calories for there weight/volume and most of them actually taste pretty good. the food items are worth carrying, but not all the extra crap in the full kit. I like to use them, along with home made stuff and freeze dried stuff for backpacking.

They're DEHYDRATED. Of course they'll be lighter.

23lbs. Bulk.

There's nothing worse than having to leave the comfort of your closed blinds and glowing computer in order to get dressed and and go outside on a sunny day just to pick up something to eat. Consolidate your trips with this emergency food kit.
WTF, did I write that in the future or something? Am I typing blogs or articles in my sleep?

And the article is misleading about never needing to leave the house again. The delivery guy will probably leave the bucket on the front step, requiring the door to be opened, possibly allowing in some outside air, or worse yet, sunlight. That shit causes cancer for god's sake! 😛

Now that's efficiency. 🙂 How much of the weight of most food is just water? Water, which is piped to your house for a fraction of a cent per gallon. Too bad more foods can't be cheaply dehydrated, and reconstituted without any significant change to their flavor or consistency. That right there could save a lot in energy expenditures, assuming that the expense of the dehydration process could be accomplished at a net gain in overall efficiency, from crop harvest to arrival on the dinner table.

As a bonus, in a pinch you can use them to help build/reinforce anti-zombie fortifications.

even so, the serving size is quite small. a serving size of the foods i make and dehydrate for backpacking is between 2 and 3 oz of dried food. a 30% to 100+% difference.

And the food you take backpacking is better. This stuff isn't supposed to be tasty, just good enough that you can stomach it and not starve.

I will look for this next time I go to Costco. OMG, in for 2! 1 bucket will last a poor college student a whole quarter!

How did all of you miss this little detail?

It should be noted that all meals are vegetarian and vitamin-fortified

Count me out. Even MRE's taste better than anything vegetableatarian (sic).

Agreed.
MRE's would be far superior.
