So my brother and I rebuilt the turbo on our 86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. We get it all back together and hear the most ghastly sound... scraping/grinding. We take the turbo out to find the shaft is bent 🙁. Off to find a cheap replacement before winter sets in.

Did you prime the turbo after you put it back on? Just firing up the car with no oil in the turbo is a sure fire death sentence for a turbo.

You rebuilt the turbo but didn't check to make sure the shaft was fine?

Nope. Big mistake on our part. Oh well, rebuilt unit on the way.
