where can i get a program that will read .avi movies? i cant seem to get WMP to play em, nor will quicktime, so i am stuck as to what to do!

Eek!! I'm having the same problem!

Windows media player won't play Avi files..

Divx will...but only audio..no video.

i've dled all the codecs that I know of: divx, xvid...

am I missing something? Most of my movie/video files are AVI's....and I can't open them!! 🙁

hmmm, now that i think about it i have an .avi file that only plays the video and not the 'music'... anyone know what the prob with this one could be?

edit: music = all sounds

Missing codecs. I hate to advocate codec packs ...

... so I won't. 🙂

Go get VirtualDub and open the movie with that. Follow up with a search on the audio/video codec's name and download.

The most "common uncommon" audio codec is the Tag2000 AC3 codec - FOURCC tag "2000" obviously. 😉

I hate how theres a million codecs out now, someone should make a program that will tell you what codec your file is and automaticly download it if you dont have it. Also if the movie is not finished add the whatever to the end so then its viewable. I hate how wmp tries to find a codec in its ghetto database and then fails.

the following file type is unsupported.

ES07. what am i supposed to do with that?

why in the hell doesnt 1 avi equal another?

if anyone is interested, i found the proper codec. since this was from a webcam, i guess it came with a webcam software. so i finally found it, embedded in the install of eyeballchat. so, if you are interested in this, go to www.eyeballchat.com. unfortunately, it cant be separated from eyeball chat, so i just had to leave the registry keys and disgard the actyual files that i dont need./
