Nooo!! Outlook 2003 emails - can I retrieve them? No *.PST!

My wife had a TON of emails in Outlook 2003 but thanks to a small crash and a Windows reinstall AND an Office reinstall, I don't know what to do about old emails!

I copied the old folders of "Documents and Settings" as well as "Microsoft Office" and added "OLD" in front of each, so they won't interfere with all the new stuff being generated by the fresh XP/Office install.

Now - how do I get those emails back? Although it's not my fault, my wife will NOT be happy if those emails are lost! [sigh] Talk about getting good motivation to do that PST export for regular backups. 🙁 🙁 🙁

Please help!! Many thanks.

appears you are sol..sorry

use pst or you can get the new acronis true image or geniesoft backup, they back up emails also...set a scheduled task.

The PST is normally stored in \Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. Local Settings is a hidden folder, so make sure you have Explorer set so you can view it.

Yea it's in an odd folder. Once you locate the .PST you can just do a file | open in outlook to pull it open and drag your stuff around to it's new inbox.

You can tell search to look in hidden folders I believe. Otherwise, just turn it on. Go to Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, click on View, then go down to "Hidden files and folders: "Show hidden files and folders," hit apply, and check to see if you can see the Local Settings folder.

Nice going, everyone! found the hidden PST! Now to see if those emails are intact.

Good news is even if it doesn't work, I had a backup from 2-3 months ago, so all was not lost after all. Still, this will get us right up to date...

I'll keep you posted!
