Nookular...

JulesMaximus

No Lifer
So, I was watching Fox News this weekend and heard one of their commentators use the word Nuclear...only he pronounced it nookular. What kind of dumbfuck who proclaims to be a journalist intentionally mispronounces a word like this? Did you flunk out of high school and then go to the University of Dumbfuckistan for your degree in Journalism?

Yeah, and it only made him look more and more like a fucking retard every time he did it...now other retards are copying him.

Jimmy Carter was the first that I remember doing this and he was a fvcking Nuclear Trained officer in the USN. He was also the ulimate Fvcktard. Even more than Obama, but it is a close race.

😛

its nucular, dummy. The S is silent.

Not only is it a weak rant, it's an uninformed one.

Notice the second accepted pronunciation?
To which I say, they may go to hell. 😛

If they'd wanted the second one to be fully correct, it would be spelled "nucular."

TFD.com mentions this.
Much more common is the similar sequence (-ky

-l
schwa.gif
r), which occurs in words like particular, circular, spectacular, and in many scientific words like molecular, ocular, and vascular.

So then, if the second pronunciation is appropriate, then we should be able to say "particlear", p

So don't watch fox news, problem solved. You could also check out PMSNBC, I'm sure they pronounce everything just the way you like it.

All those upside down and backward letters confuse the hell out of me.

But I will now begin to pronounce words like molecular as "mole-cli-ar".
^_^

So according to Webster's if a government official or and educated person pronounces a word a certain way that becomes an acceptable pronunciation? Wtf?

Letters make certain sounds with no 'U' between the 'C' and the 'L' there is literally no way that nuclear spells nucular. Webster's fails at English.

If this is the worst you've got on FOX News, I'm sorely disappointed.

I was channel surfing and only gave it a couple minutes. Sorry...I just don't watch fox news.

I did catch a great piece on CNN though, they were interviewing a guy who found a poem his father, a WWII veteran, wrote about an enemy soldier he killed in combat. Very moving piece.

I work for a company that designs and builds fossil and nuclear power generators, and many people here say nook-u-lar.

I didn't even know what a newcular panner plant was till I started working here.

yeah, they included it because it's a common mispronunciation. if someone says "nucular," the dictionary needs to show people that they mean "nuclear." it doesn't mean that it's the correct pronunciation.

at any rate, yes, it makes people look uneducated when they say it, but clinton says "nucular," too. it's gotta be a southern thing.

it still irks me, though.
