The company has reportedly shipped three million since it launched the fall, one million of which shipped in the last few weeks of the year. Demand was reportedly such that it hit 600,000 to 700,000 of the LCD e-readers each month in January and February, Digitimes said.

The share would give it about 50 percent of the "iPad-like" market, the tipsters said, although they didn't say whether this included Apple or deliberately focused on all non-Apple tablets.

The math behind the 50% marketshare cited in that article is extremely iffy since we don't know what "iPad-like" refers to. Even if it's just Android tablets excluding iPads, I'd be shocked if the Nook Color actually had that much of the market, even ignoring the fact that it's technically an ereader and not a tablet.

Regardless it sounds like B&N has sold a ton of the things which hopefully helps their bottom line.

I think the color nook shows that sometimes "just enough" is fine.

No 4G, no dual core CPU'S, etc... priced appropriately and it's selling like crazy.

Me too. Once we rip the kernel out of that official Froyo build, CM7 will be perfect!

looks like i'll be picking mine up today for 200. can't wait! btw, do you think the NC contributed to google not releasing the source code for HC?

Look in the rooting thread for updates, CM7 is almost stabilized.

No, I think the fact that Honeycomb is probably a nasty hack is why its held back. SD card slot doesn't work and is still laggy (almost as bad as Nook) on my friend's Xoom.

With the new tablet improvements added to CM7 in a settings menu, the hurting for Honeycomb is abated.

Are you buying it used or something? I haven't seen it at 200 since the ebay sale.

yeah, used. saw it on craigslist. seller has receipt and all materials. it's 2 weeks old. said she was expecting something like an ipad2, which is why she's selling. price on CL has been 200-265, with the later being NIB with a SD card.

I think B&N figured out the price sweet spot for tablets. It's $200ish.
Get a nice screen to look at, good enough everything else and call it a day.
Up the specs, add features like cameras, as time goes on and components get cheaper, but stick to the price point.
Basically what Apple is doing with iPod touch, but for 7 inch tablets.
I really don't see myself buying a $500 tablet, ever.
I wouldn't be surprised to see an Amazon Kindle tablet for under $300 with built in camera and microphone for video chat. At that point, what else do you need from a tablet enough to justify doubling the price?

I agree that BN has hit the sweet spot in terms of price ($200-$250), and honestly a camera is about the only other thing I would want, however in reality would probably rarely ever use.

Does B&N sell these at a loss, hoping to recoup money by selling books for them?

No, they cost ~$195 each to make, then you factor in shipping and such. I'd guess they make ~$40. When they sell them for $200 on ebay I'd say they're losing a little.

My wife wanted a e-reader. I figured for $60 more than a kindle I could get her a decent Android tablet. Rooted, the NC fits the bill perfectly. She gets her stock Nook e-reader capabilities, with the added bonus of tablet/full color web browsing, email and all the other benefits of a tablet.

Once again, all for about $60 more than a kindle.

Good for them.... I bet it has alot to do with that recent $199 sale on ebay (I bought one then).

No way I would ever drop the $500+ on a zoom or ipad but I can do half that price.

Yup! Unless you have a very specific reason for purchasing a e-ink e-reader, there really is no reason to not get a NC.

I so want a NC, although there is NO "good" reason for me to buy one. It'd be 100% toy.

What keyboard do you guys use on your NC's?
