Nook Colo: Now running Froyo 2.2.1

Bateluer

Ok, I've had enough, one more Nook Color thread and I'm going to have to buy one 🙂

This is precisely how I feel... I feel this pull to buy the thing. Even though I have an iPad that I'm generally pretty content with and this urge to buy a Color Nook to hack it makes no sense. Sometimes I make no sense to myself.

We're pretty well doomed now, XDA has gone all hacker crazy on the Color Nook.

Source code was just released, if I were a betting man, THIS is the hacker's tablet for the next 6 months, small, good specs, killer price and a loyal following developing.

The fact that the Nook, an-ereader, got Froyo before my Samsung Fascinate did really disappoints me...
While I agree, it's hard to know whether the blame is purely on Samsung or if Verizon is to blame as well.

I mean, they have started rolling out 2.2 in some international markets. I'm fairly confident that if VZ pushed the issue more we would be receiving that update sooner rather than later.

I hate to derail this thread, but..

It is mainly Verizon's fault. They take entirely too long testing updates. Let's be honest, their testing process obviously doesn't work well (The 2.2 update for the DX ring any bells? It hasn't been the only disaster either). First they bake all of their crap in, that is half of the testing time right there. Better make sure their shitty apps work well even though nobody wants them. Samsung is still at fault a little because these phones should have shipped with 2.2 from the start, or they at least could have dropped the source sooner.

To stay on topic, I think I'll stay away from the e-readers/tablets until they eventually merge together into one product.

I think color e-ink is the way to go for a reader. Do I really need color for an e-reader? I guess it would be nice for graphics (diagrams, etc) but given the choice, I'd rather have e-ink over color just for readability reasons.
