You guys seem extremely helpful, I'm looking for some help sorting through this maze of news building a new rig. I've posted a full length cry for help here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2124377

would you fellows mind taking a look and shooting some suggestions my way. Cheers!

EDIT: Mfenn beat me to it, he actually posted a reply for me before I had a shot at refreshing the page. Amazing and much appreciated!

Mfenn and David are pure technical badasses with hints of mint overclocking.

Well..I put everything together and it won't turn on. Apparently the motherboard should light up if it's getting power at least (told this by a friend) and it's not....so I honestly do not know what to do. I thought I put everything in correctly..but apparently not...

Edit: I'm theorizing either a dead MOBO or PSU problem or I plugged shit in wrong...Last option I'm not sure of; I've checked multiple times.

Make sure the PSU is turned on. The motherboard doesn't always have a light either. Make sure also that the motherboard 20/24 pin is in, and also the CPU 4 pin. You also want to make sure the power button is actually hooked up to the motherboard in the correct place.

Haha I stripped it apart and found on the motherboard manual the color assignments the case said for the power turn on were different, so I moved those and bam. Then it did an infinite reboot, but my friend said that I needed to put back the video card - WALA!

I just finished the BIOS setup to MY BEST ABIILITY. So I'm gonna start it as normal then install Windows7 Fully fresh, then after that do all the video card drives, etc.

I think I've got it??

Windows 7 would install, but it said to get the best instillation I should go online to get the newest updates, but the ethernet drivers are outdated hardcore and it won't connect.

So 1. Use my laptop to get the latest drivers (How would I search for them? Find my MOBO specific drivers?)

or

2. Install Windows 7 without the recommended "newest" stuff and just update later and hope the etherne drivers update during reinstillation?

If you don't have network, then Windows update ain't gonna be able to download the updates. ;) Just go to your mobo manufacturer's website on your laptop and navigate to the support section. From there you should be able to put in your model number and get all of the drivers.

Oh hey, no biggie, just chillin' and posting on these awesome forums using my new computer...like I said, no biggie :))))))

THIS IS SO AWESOMMEEEEE! I ACTUALLY BUILT A FUCKING COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!! IT'S SO EXHILARATINGG!!!!!!!

So my only two current problems are 1. Plugged in speakers, shows sound when I sound test it, but can't hear Youtube videos. Have encountered this before; I think restarting will solve the problem. 2. Where I download Direct X 11?

Install the windows updates automatically. They should be downloading over the next few days. when you go to shut down you'll see a little shield with an exclamation mark. That means your computer will automatically apply updates before it shuts down, so you will have them next time you boot up :). DX 11 comes with Windows 7, and a game that requires an update will install the update needed.

EDIT: to fix the audio, DL Realtek HD Audio Drivers

That link is circular..leads to nothing. Hmm...

But I actually got it working somewhat..when I turn on SC2 it plays the music but not the game sound effects; also I can't hear youtube videos. They are two little speakers with a green Audio input and an ethernet thingie. When I plug it in, it asks me to describe what they are - I say "Front Speakers." Also, the motherboard had already installed HD audio drivers...I don't know why it works for some audio (Like when I test it) and no for Youtube videos.

Congrats on a successfully completing the build.

My graphics card scores a 7.6 on the Windows Index and my processor a 7.5...can't wait to learn to overclock and such (If those ratings even accurately reflect anything).

But I'd love to give back to this forum. I'll frequent some random threads and try to give people the most advice I can. =D

The WEI score is logarithmic, so it gets exponentially harder to increase your score as you get closer to the max (7.9). So yeah, anything above 7.2 is pretty good.

Has anyone even been able to get the 7.9 yet?
