Got my new AMD 64X2 3800+ (65W) and new Epox EPMF4 Ultra-3 MB along with 1 gig stick of the Gskill 5-5-5-15 memory and an X1650Pro card last night and got the new PC up and running. After loading Windoze and service pack 2 I started to change the setting in the BIOS.
First change was in mem voltage. Stock, the mem was recognized as DR2 800. According to the specs on Newegg, it says voltage 1.9-2.0 so I set it at 1.9 in the Bios and came up with 450mhz. When I set voltage at 2.0 i get 500mhz. this sound right? There is a memory clock multiplier in the Bios, but I am not sure I should mess with that.
Second change was the processor. Recognized right away as X2 3800+, I changed the clock ratio from Auto to 20 (1-50 is allowed) and came up with 2.25ghz, which I assume means it is running at somewhere around a 4500+?? I set the clock ratio at 30 then and got 2.3. Worked fine with the apps I was using, but when I went to use the audio software bundled with the MB, the system did a reset on me. Checked the CPU temp and I had a consistant reading of 32c (PC in basement which is about 60* in winter)
Do you guys think the reboot was because of a software glitch, or did I OC too much right away?
I'd like to get the best performance out of the PC as I was on a limited budget, but also don't want to be buying more processors because I screwed something up. Also read the Quick and Dirty OC info and have no clue even past the first paragraph as there are no options for HTT or FSB in the BIOS from what I can see in the manual. (or is that the CPU clock ratio)
Anyone care to lend a hand or recommend some testing software I can use to make sure the PC runs stable other than to wait for a reboot?
