Noob questions. Please help me identify these cables.

I just got done building my first rig. I've gotten everything cabled except for the following, which I'm hoping you can help me identify (or reassure me that no harm can from from just plugging them in). I got a case with a front panel LCD temp gauge and fan control - the case also has LEDs (pic of panel, link to case - I assume they have something to do with those.

Can anyone help identify the cables - should I just plug them in to see?

1) This cable has 2 small wires coming from the front console into the 5v pins, where it breaks out to a standard female molex as well as a male. Both adapters have all 4 pins but only the 5v connectors appear to be cabled.

2) These 3 cables all only have 2-pins. The one on the left has a small green cable (and ground) coming into the 5v pins. The ones on the right have cables going to the 12v - one is male and one is female. Front view here - connector with green cable on top.

3) I'm pretty sure these cables are thermometers - one is labeled HD and one CPU. Do I just secure the end of the CPU thermometer into the CPU cooling fins? Just secure the HD therm to a HDD?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1) maybe for lights for case
2) probably want you to plug fans into it?
3) yes those are thermometers

Didnt the case come with a manual that has all those things labeled?

Thanks. But where do you place the thermometers? For the CPU thermometer, do I just instert it into the cooling fins?

Unfortunately, no. The case is pretty cheap. A brief set of instructions is on the outside of the box but no documentation on cables.

I'd say put the CPU thermometer between the CPU and heatsink but that'd be a bit iffy...

Google for your case, see what other people are saying?

Place it in the corner of your CPU. But not so far in that it blocks your HSF from making contact.

Tried that. Unfortunately, this isn't exactly an "enthusiast" case. It's a beast - the only reason to consider it would be if you need 6+ HDDs. If you do, it's a great deal, but it's not popular enought that there are discussions of it that I can find. Also, I assume that thermometers would be the same for many/most mobos. I looked for generic posts about where to place thermomters but came up blank there, too.

You're saying between the CPU and heatsink -- just in the corner? Or just as close as possible to the CPU without actually getting between it and the heatsink? Would placing it on one of the lower fins be a good measure? It might be more secure there... less likely to move out of place when I'm closing up the case and moving it.

Sorry that I'm beating a dead horse - just don't want to fry my CPU, and would like to get accurate temps.

Definatly do NOT put the thermometer between the CPU and heatsink..that will gurantee poor contact, and you will have an overheating CPU. Just put it in the fins of the heatsink as close to the cpu as possible.

Agreed, you should never do this - if your temp probes worsen temps it'd be better not to have one at all.

That said what I usually do is jam a temp probe in a lower fin of a HSF or tape it to the base...

Tape it to the base of the HSF where it is closest to the CPU.
Manual Third page onwards is what you need. They explain how/where to connect everything. How hard would it have been to include that with the case? lol
