noob question about Zune

I believe the zune supports WMA lossless, which is pretty much the same, all lossless codecs will not sound any different given the same equipment.

Um, your exact complaints about the Zune also apply to the iPod. Just replace any instance of Zune software with iTunes and Zune with iPod.

huh? there are a bunch of 3rd party iPod syncing programs that allow you to drag and drop files to it. I sync my Touch wirelessly using Winamp. You can use an iPod without iTunes at all. Rockbox is not unpolished, Rockbox's interface owns Zune hard on every level, and the fact it works on many different MP3 players is a just plus. I don't know what problems one could possibly have with Rockbox it's an amazing firmware to use on any player that supports it.

It makes a lot more sense to buy the CD to me. But are you buying these CD's for $0.01, cause shipping itself is $3 IIRC.

Also .flac is a waste on a portable music player. Of space the of the higher quality.

It's wasted on portable players, but hard drives are cheap enough, so you rip your main collection into a lossless format and have it convert to mp3 as it transfers to the player.

Well with the new HDD size boom, 120gb HD based players are commonplace enough for many people to get full lossless n their player.

Of course it does! Just make sure to rip the songs in .MP3 format, because .WMA files won't work on an iPod and .AAC files won't work on a Zune. Many simpler devices don't understand either! MP3's seem to work with EVERYTHING, which will come in handy if you ever want to play those songs on a some other device like an iPhone or some other Smartphone in the future.

I thought AAC files would work just fine with the Zune (as long as they're not DRM-protected of course).
