Noob Q: Can't connect to my wireless router

I have a Linksys wireless router on a cable connection and I'm trying to set up a laptop running XP Home in the next room, with a D-Link DWL-650. XP detects the connection but when I try to connect it says there's no strength and automatically disconnects. I thought it might have been interference (our apartment complex has its own 11b service which the laptop also detects) but it doesn't connect even with the laptop right next to the router. I've tried it with WEP disabled & different channels, but no luck. The router shows the connection, but its not communicating. Any thoughts? Thx

Does the SSID (Service Set Identifier) for the router and PC Card match?
