Ok, I have a Lian Li case, and I have the tray out and I mounted the MOBO, CPU (X2 3800+), and stock heatsink and fan. I guess my first question is this. Does my retail CPU come with thermal compound? On the bottom of the heatsink, there is a raised piece of material that coincides with the CPU, is this pre-installed thermal compound, or do I need to put some on?

it should come with a thermal pad (so leave it on)

but make sure you remove any protective cover from the thermal pad/thermal material

Ok, I just connected the RAM, case LED lights, etc, front USB ports, and Video Card. Now I am going to power it up for a test.

Better make sure you have those lil brass "stand offs" right between the case and your mobo.

AMD's thermal guide advises against adding thermal paste to a heatsink that uses a pad, they are not compatable.

Then you have most likely purchased an illeagal copy of Windows XP. Call Microsoft and they will send you a legitimate copy for squeeling on the perpetrator who sold you the bad software. Or you could just find an XP C**prate ____y.

I don`t mean to caca on your parade...but heres a link where others have your noCD key problem...

http://www.pcmech.com/forum/printthread.php?t=128400

What I do know is I have seen copies in the past OEM that is sold with no CD key.

But not from what we would call a reputable dealer such as newegg...etc...

Good Luck with that key issue...

Also you can`t use or borrow a friends CD key it just doesn`t work that way!!

Good Luck!!

Geez, this REALLY sucks!!! Talk about frustrating. WHat happens if I don't complete the windows install? What would happen if I took out the Installation CD right now?
