noob advice: temp ok or 2 high with stock hsf on xp2100+?

i have a 2100+ xp [thoroughbred b] on asus a7n8x with the stock hsf/thermal pad.
i am somewhat alarmed to note the bios reporting the idle cpu temp as 56-58 deg C. I know these chips run hot but is this acceptable or too hot?
i didnt buy a diff hsf for now to run the system in and curb any ideas i might have about O/C:this seems to have put me off evem more! :frown:

it is housed in an enermax 3501; i did notice the side panel case fan wasnt working so will fix that but how much diff will that realisically make?!

Ummmmmm.......... That sound HOT, what is your ambient Temp and your Case Temp?

(BTW mine was/is running at 60c and is stable 🙂 - i have a XP 1800+)
 
Yeah still sounds HIGH!

I would surgest getting another Heatsink. But is it stable? if it is then dont rush to get a new Heatsink (i would get a CoolMaster Aero 7)
 
its a new build - i havent even gotten round to putting the os on it yet but from my generally playing and exploring the bios settings is was ok

bit odd for the amd supplied hsf/pad to be so crap though isnt it?

Sounds hot for just being in the BIOS. How did the HSF mounting go? Take you a couple tries...perhaps you tore the thermal pad? Very easy to do. IIRC, my XP2200 w/stock HSF and thermal pad was around 45*C load, 40*C idle at stock speeds. That was in a fairly hot room...70*F - 80*F. Of course, the temp reporting on the board could be funky....I'd try to install Windows. If it makes it thru with no errors, you're probably okay, but I'd download motherboard monitor and double check the temps.

Uh...wild idea, but why not run it with no side panel for 10-20 minutes and find out 😕
 
aaah...yes..good point maybe this bit of info would be useful for you to help me:
when installing i had disable the sata controller and the damned thing wouldnt boot at all [at the time didnt know it was due to that jumper change] so we disassembled everything one-by-one and that included removing the hsf from the chip in order to put my friend's chip/hsf in to make sure i didnt have a dodgy cpu.

would that mean my thermal pad is now useless?
sorry i didnt mention this before but it didnt occur to me that breaking contact would make a diff if i put this same pad/hsf back on.

should i clean the cpu and hsf and put some thermal grease on?
