Nonflamable cigs

I saw a comercial (sp?) that said that cigs sold in NYC were fireproof and was asking why the cigs sold elsewhere are not. My first thought was that the nonflamable ones are prolly worse for your lungs. What's up with all this crap?

it's their attempt to have less fires from people dropping cigarettes when too drunk, or falling asleep, or forgetting, etc...

if you light a cigarette, and then set it down, rather then burn to the butt, it just dies out.

Google reveals this, apparently..first I've heard of it. I guess they must put flame retardants into it?

I don't know whether it carries additional health risks, but I know that anytime you have to add something to the mix, costs go up...so that's why other areas don't carry such cigarettes, I'd guess.

Actually I would suggest that risks/costs will go down. IIRC smoking companies put accelerants into the tobacco to 1) stop the cigarette from going out between puffs (what the companies say is for consumer convenience) and 2) makes the cigarettes burn faster therefore people smoke more cigarettes (what everyone else thinks).

Potassium nitrate aka saltpeter .. in the paper, not the tobacco. In most cigarettes it is laced in visible rings that are darker than the surrounding paper.
