That's actually an idea I would support.

Along with fining and prosecuting Americans who hire illegals to work for wages that most American workers would not. After all, if there are less people & businesses hiring illegals, that would stem some of the flow across the border.

While we're at it we should stop the War on Drugs; which along with low-wage Mexican & Central American workers brings a lot of illegals into the U.S. It would also save a fair amount of taxpayer dollars.

I am against voter ID laws. That just will not work.

I love early voting.

I do not like voting by mail. Too many ways to cheat.

Ex-offenders voting is a State issue. If ones entire sentence is up, to include parole, then I see no reason why a person's voting rights cannot be regained.

As for registering to vote, I want everyone to prove with official documents that they are in fact a legal US citizen. No exceptions. No registration by mail. One only need show up personally with proof once. Unless you move. Then there might or should be a system by which one State can share citizenship info. It's not all that difficult.

Oh, yes, while we are on the subject of voting.....NO COMPUTER VOTING. Paper ballots only.

What is wrong with all that?

You want folks who have voted for years to now prove they are citizens? I can see a new voter having that need. When a person turns 18 they have all sorts of documents they can touch. They were only born 18 years ago so that shouldn't be an issue... They want to drive too... or visit France or Somalia so Passports are needed ... but Grandma, she's been voting since Truman... but alas she don't drive nor visit England and the hospital records don't exist... she was born at home. She may have moved from her palatial estate in Jackson to more a moderate dwelling in Atlanta what might she have to proove not only who she is but that she was born in Alabama and not Kenya.
A phase in is appropriate but not a cut and dry proof positive or we'll deport you to Tucson...

Sending the illegals back isn't going to work since they will just come back over and over, put the illegals in labor camps and work off the damage they have done or bring in the death penalty for illegally entering the country

You seem to be a law abiding citizen and would support all the laws and treaties created in your name by our fellow citizens and law makers, Right? Of course you do... I can tell...

How about the Mexican 'Illegal' are just visiting their property pursuant to Article 8 of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848)?

http://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/guadhida.asp#art8

"Mexicans now established in territories previously belonging to Mexico, and which remain for the future within the limits of the United States, as defined by the present treaty, shall be free to continue where they now reside, or to remove at any time to the Mexican Republic, retaining the property which they possess in the said territories, or disposing thereof, and removing the proceeds wherever they please, without their being subjected, on this account, to any contribution, tax, or charge whatever.
Those who shall prefer to remain in the said territories may either retain the title and rights of Mexican citizens, or acquire those of citizens of the United States. But they shall be under the obligation to make their election within one year from the date of the exchange of ratifications of this treaty; and those who shall remain in the said territories after the expiration of that year, without having declared their intention to retain the character of Mexicans, shall be considered to have elected to become citizens of the United States.
In the said territories, property of every kind, now belonging to Mexicans not established there, shall be inviolably respected. The present owners, the heirs of these, and all Mexicans who may hereafter acquire said property by contract, shall enjoy with respect to it guarantees equally ample as if the same belonged to citizens of the United States."

Imagine 2m Mexicans having an undivided interest in their ancestor's property now passed to them and their cousins and sisters and aunts as rightful heirs..... You'd welcome them... wouldn't you?

WTF is a potential non-citizen? Everyone with a Hispanic name? Sounds like racial profiling.

Dammit don't you understand that all right wing conservatives have to walk in lock step and agree and believe in the same damn things all the time?

1. It's surprising to me that you haven't figured out that guy is a leftist who's responding how he "thinks" a conservative would react. Wise up.

2. If you trust the U.S. Federal Government about treaties you deserve what you get.

Well considering that the federal government seems to have a "right" to violate treaties made with Native Americans about their land. And most Mexicans have native american blood... doesnt seem like the contract is worth much

In addition to this "prove your citizenship" action that I believe is needed, there needs to be a purge of all voter records to get rid of the dead and non-citizens. (Sorry Cook county)

The ballot box is rigged anyway.

You have no proof whatsoever of this yet you keep saying it, over and over and over again. Frankly, you should be on a short list of posters who are not allowed to make any assertions without backing them up.

I don't like the sound of this. It would really hurt my neighbor because I helped her about voting. She was talking me to one day about not liking the stance that our local rep had on school lunch programs for low income famileis. I said, "Your son goes to the schools in the district, why shouldn't you have a say on how the schools are run even if you aren't a citizen?" I even drove her to the polling place because she can't get a license since INS would be alerted. She just chose some random name on the list and said that was who she was and put in her ballot. I highly doubt that the person she chose would have voted anyway and it's much better to have someone vote in their stead that actually cares about the issues. So if any of our reps start talking about this I'll be sure to go against it and also let my neighbor know so that she could help vote them out too.

She and her family live here, they go to our schools, go to our hospitals, and work jobs here. Why don't they get a say in how things are run when most people don't give a damn? And there's no need to be so hurtful; it's not that big of a deal.

It's a very big mother-fucking deal. Thank God you are lying about facilitating a felony.

Now I'm a liar and a felon, really? I find it very concerning and elucidating that you can't come up with a proper argument and instead resort to name calling. If that women wanted to vote then she should have already hit up the polling center earlier in the morning. As far as I'm concerned, my neighbor did nothing more than the civic duty that the other person should have done. In that light, it all evens out for the better.

I love name calling. It is the basis for all politics.

You say you compitted a felony and I say you are a liar. Which is it? Are you a criminal or a liar?

This is just too easy.

I'm sorry that you aren't able to form a cogent argument and would like to refer you to notice that any personal attacks or insults will be dealt with via vacationings. As for the topic on hand, your opposition to allowing people to vote is at great odds with my other fellow neighbors.

You said you were a criminal and I called you a "mother-fucker". LOL! which is worse?

I love US citizens voting. I would hope that every citizen that wanted to vote, votes. In your post you admitted that this person was not a US citizen and you criminally facilitated her committing a felony in voting.

If I knew that you were telling the truth, you are lying about this, I would say you needed to be investigated and arrested. But I don't believe a thing you have said.
