Non-Z170 DDR4 overclock?

If Intel didn't limit DDR4 OCing to Z boards, most single GPU only buyers will be flocking en masse to 4GHz+ i7-Ks and run with cheapo H/B mobos, and won't even bother with the laughingly small OC headroom.

I strongly disagree. You're the exception not the norm. There might be a handful of guys out there who pair i7-Ks with H series motherboards. But the majority of new PC builders and enthusiasts willing to pay $300+ for a brand new i7 sure as hell will pay to get it 600-700Mhz higher speed. They will usually pay for 3000+ Mhz DDR4 RAM, too. I see it all the time on /r/buildapc.

The bleeding edge, new retail buyers are not the budget buyers. True budget buyers will go for the last generation because used is always cheaper. New buyers value performance over price. That's why you are the outlier.
