Non-video card in PCI-E SLI slot ???

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to run a non-video card, such as HDD controller, in one of the SLI slots. I'm trying to make a decision on new motherboard and don't have a need for SLI, but like some of the features that come with higher end SLI motherboards. A lot of the SLI motherboards come only with one extra PCI-E slot, and I would be interested to hear if I can use the unused SLI slot for non-video devices. Is there perhaps difference between different chipset implementations of SLI to allow/disable this? I'm for example looking at ASUS P5N-E.

Thank you,

Pavel.

It's certainly possible but I believe that it may be board specific depending upon how it & the BIOS have been set up.
