To the right: It is inevitable that if you get a large group of people there will be at least one dumbfuck asshole in it. That does not mean they are all dumbfuck assholes.

To the left: I am a innocent until proven guilty type of person too but it is quite reasonable at this point to believe it was a dumbfuck asshole from the union. However, unless serious proof comes out that the union was actually involved, versus some dumbfuck doing dumb shit who just happened to be in the union, I don't see how this is a knock against unions.

The shitty quality can be attributed to lazy union workers who had no incentive to work hard or efficiently because they knew that they couldn't be fired (because of the union)...

Quality assurance is management's perogative. The people working on the assembly line cannot determine the quality of the materials that management specifies to be used in the product, nor can the workers determine how strict or lax a quality assurance inspector has to be to keep the products rolling out the door. Management controls that.

The car builders usually rely on many outside suppliers to provide the parts that go into assembling the vehicles at the plant which includes many pre-assembled parts. Many of these suppliers are non-union.

The union workers can only control what they are directly responsible for, which is mostly assembly line work. Their work is inspected by management personnel all along the assembly line process. Management is directly involved and directly responsible for the quality of the product they manufacture.

The workers know if they do not perform up to standards they will be held responsible and remedies will be applied. It's just a fact of life on the assemby line.

Sure, there's the disgruntled worker to worry about, but that's a problem that's also found in non-union workplaces as well.

If you'd care to dig into it, you'd find that practically all recalls of automobiles are due to design problems which management is responsible for, and not problems with how the affected parts or systems were assembled.

And let's not forget how the Big Three colluded way back in the day and decided that planned obsolescence was a sure fire way to boost profits and guarantee quicker turnover of their cars and trucks. The unions had nothing to do with that. It was a management decision to implement that policy.

In a lot of states phone calls can be recorded as long as one party knows.

You guys LOVE to throw the F word around when someone calls you out on the reality of how unions work. When I was a teenager I watched a union come in and try to take over the store I worked at. They dropped rotten meat into the coolers, they filed numerous 'slip and fall' lawsuits and every other dirty trick they could think of to 'convince' the employees and management that union was the way to go. In the end they won. And what did the employees get? Nothing. Not one benefit. Not even a 10 cent raise. And they had to pay their dues on top of it all so really the employees lost. Why pay someone for a job if it's not better than the one you had?

Unions suck. They aren't out for the rank and file. They're out for themselves. They want the dues. Fuck the employees... if you can't afford your dues you're out. And guess what? You won't get rehired at any other union shop after that.

Grocery store unions are probably one of the worst. They offer no benefits because they all represent minimum wage employees, and the dues are a flat monthly rate without respect to how many hours you have worked. If you are part-time and only worked 4 shifts in a month for 12 hours total, those unions dues cut your take home pay in about half...

I'm not really sure what you're getting at as your post is somewhat vague so I'm gon'na proceed with my best guess, K? And sorry to offend your sensibilities on the subject. However, throughout man's history, wide-scale brutality has been committed by all ethnicities some time or another. Pointing out one at the exclusion of all the others who've done the same is cherry picking at it's finest.

Relatively small groups of people, it's easier to not devolve into a chimp when you're mostly working by yourself then sharing information with the group.
