Why are you doing that particular trade (8800GTX for a 4850) to begin with? Just looking for something new and different to try out?

mainly Power consumption reasons.
my 8800gtx eats up so many watts at idle, and i'm hardly ever home to game these days. I want to be able to game when I feel like it, but i don't need my sytem churning up 220 watts at idle all day when my little brother is using it for simple web games.

and someone offered me the trade. i would never try to push a trade like that because its simply stupid. I get something more and the other guy gets something less. but in this case he said he wanted to try that card, so we're going ahead with it.

Ah I see. I figured the cost of ground shipping would have negated the power savings, but I guess if you leave the system on all day, it'll start to make a difference.

Maybe the other guy just wanted a card with a dual slot cooler. Can't really speak for the GTX, but the G80 GTS had a pretty quiet cooler.

Did you read the NewEgg reviews for that Diamond 4850, btw? Not that you should ever take NewEgg reviews as gospel, but still.
