Non-native resolutions... how do you set custom resolutions for games on LCD's?

CS does not have an option for 1280x1024.
it looks like crap in every other resolution.

I've heard "custom resolutions" will fix that.
how do I do it?

In Windows ME/XP/2000 go to Control panel,Display,Settings.

yeah, that allows me to adjust settings to predefined resolutions.

I'm looking for a way to allow me to run apps with a special resolution with black bars on the top/bottom.

Lifer,

Not sure what video card you have, but you can disable scaling so resolutions lower than your native will look ok.

I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I bought an lcd a couple weeks ago and returned it because the non-native resolutions looked like crap with the games and especially CS.

But in my threads started here and here, they say I can run native res. and have black bars around.
I wouldn't mind that.

How would I disable scaling?
I have a GF3 Ti200.

With my LCD there's an option on the OSD to disable scaling. On mine there's an image size normal or full screen setting. Full screen streches the screen if using a non native resolution.
Normal will leave black bars since the image is normal sized and not stretched out.

If not check your advanced display properties for a setting to enable or disable panel scaling or something similar.
