i know this might sounds weird.... my car has the ipod adapter. plug my ipod in and i can control the ipod via the nav touch screen. fine.
but what if i want to listen to an mp3 player that only has the 3.5mm output? isnt there an adapter to the ipod connector? i dont wanna use the cassette adapter.

I'd like to know this as well.

My Alpine deck has the Ipod cable, but I'd like to use a different MP# player.

Your head unit has no aux input? That's lame. I have an iPod connector because I don't use it. I'd much rather navigate the iPod than press the stupid little buttons on the HU

Edit: I meant "BUT" I don't use it.

My 2007 ES has aux... I find that odd that the higher model doesnt

Why not just use cassette adaptor since it has cassette player?

EDIT: i see you didn't want to use one...

EDIT2: Did you check inside the middle console (where you put cd cases), thats where mine is

You sure it doesn't in the center console?

I didn't get the ipod connection option for my car, but there's an aux port inside the center console. Win!

This is ackin for a little electronics hacking around......hehe

OP what I would have done would have been to take a voltmeter and do some signal tracking on the cable to determine what connectors are of interest then soldering the proper connections.....However it just came to my mind that most probably your car has a male connector the goes into an iPod right? (I have never used an iPod in my life though so keep that in mind if I am wrong)....so what would be logical is to try and create a Female connector so that you end up with an iPod Female - 3.5mm male.......well I didn't think I would find any female connectors for iPods but a quick look up before suggesting any drastic measures lead me to this cable...... AN EBAY EXAMPLE

That type of cable right there is what you need......however....if you want to control your non-iPod MP3 devices from the console......you will need to have a good deal of circuit hacking experience to get it done and it will be a PITA but still fun.
I would be glad to help you / steer you in the right direction to do it because I was thinking of doing the same to my JVC head unit so that it supports my MP3 player....hehe but it will be a tedious hack heh.

Cheers
Sam

I am glad I was able to help :)
Let me know if you guys would be looking into any drastic action to get your non-iPod players to work from consoles because that would be an interesting challenge right there hehe.
